Sherry Dwyer, CCP gave a wonderful presentation on escheatment, a topic every payroll professional comes in contact with at some point in time. Sherry provided a bit of history on the topic, a good explanation of what it is, and issues to look out for. Sherry has been kind enough to share her presentation with us. Many thanks to Sherry for helping us understand this topic better! Below is a copy of Sherry's presentation and a handout she shared during the meeting.
In April 2013, the Memphis Chapter of the American Payroll Association held its annual half day seminar at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn. We were fortunate to have Judith Bookman, Patrick Siano, and Jenny Kiesewetter speak on topics that greatly influence our work as payroll professionals. Topics covered by the speakers included Leading a Stress Less Life given Judith Bookman. Ms. Bookman shared tips and stories on having a positive attitude toward even the worst situations. Ms. Bookman is an energetic speaker and kept the audience entertained with a topic that touches everyone's daily life. Patrick Siano shared a great deal of knowledge about the upcoming health care reform and how it will effect our daily jobs as payroll professionals. There is so much information out there about this topic that it can be mind blowing as well as confusing. Mr. Siano highlighted subjects we as professionals need to be on the look out for in the months ahead. Jenny Kiesewetter ended the day with the topic of retirement compliance. Ms. Kiesewetter, a practicing attorney in Memphis, has a vast knowledge of employee benefit plans. Her discussion included many tips and cautions for plan administrators. The event was well attended by payroll professionals from the Greater Memphis area and representing numerous companies. We are thankful to all attending, our speakers, and for the support from our sponsors for the event. |
